Eco-friendly homes move into mainstream

•In Wood River, Ill., ground will be broken this week for a development that will include roughly 150 single-family homes built to green guidelines set by the National Association of Home Builders. Vegetation will be planted in the community to help clean rainwater and slow its runoff, eliminating the need for storm drains.

Matt Belcher, whose company is managing the Wood River development, built his first community of green single-family homes this year in the St. Louis suburb of Kirkwood. The community's houses were arranged so most windows faced south, making the best use of solar heating and cooling.

"It just makes me a better builder," Belcher says of the environmentally friendly practices his company is using.

As a fellow blogger this is huge! Jeff McIntire-Strasburg is the Barry Bonds of green blogging (less the 20+ inch biceps). I have been a huge fan of Jeff's writings on Sustainablog, Treehugger, and now, Green Options, for years. Therefore, it was exciting for me to check Sustainablog this morning and see that he is featuring a discussion with SNI's president, Jason Loyet, AND featuring the Solar Synapse! We're a national company based out of St. Louis and Jeff is a national/international green writer based here as well--so I guess it was inevitable--but it's also a sign of success.

The St. Louis Chapter of the Home Builders Association is hosting their Tour of Green Homes this Saturday, June 16th from 10am to 4pm. The Essex--A Belcher Home in Kirkwood, MO--will be featuring SNI's new Solar Synapse (TM) Pre-Wire kit. Meet Me in St. Louis--for a modern energy training event

SNI is excited to host a renewable energy training event in St. Louis, Missouri June 25th to the 27th. The training will take place at the LEED Platinum certified Alberici World Headquarters. Attendees have the great opportunity to be trained in installing Schuco's Solar Thermal Systems (June 25), and Southwest Windpower's Skystream 3.7 wind turbine.

David Sawchak, Dealer, Program Manager for Schuco emphasized:

"The issue for renewable energy today is the hold up caused by the lack of properly trained installers.  For companies like Schuco, Southwest Windpower, and SNI to team up to fill the void and conduct these trainings will help to establish an infrastructure to regulate training in the US.
